5 Free Alternatives to Apple IOS 6 Maps
2. Bing
Microsoft always finds a way in and a way to aggravate you with annoying questions. No Bing I do not want to make Bing the default search provider in Safari! That aside, the Bing app is a full search solution for the Microsoft search engine that has its Maps included. From the main screen you just select Maps to access it. Bing has a pretty robust Map database itself. Like Google and MapQuest, Bing has been at mapping a lot longer than Apple so their information should be more on point. Transit stops, search, traffic, and directions are all included. The app seems to load data a bit slower than others though. The directions feature operates similar to the old IOS Maps with points on the route instead of turn by turn directions. Transit stops can be tapped on the map for more information including the lines running through the stop. The one thing that Bing has over the others is the ability to have different views. While not exactly street view, you can view the map in different styles via the layers menu. The map style Road gives you the standard Map view, Aerial is Satellite, and Bird’s Eye is a sort of tilted mix between Street View and 3D but not very useful. In creepy Microsoft fashion though, the first time you load the Bing app you are greeted with an agreement asking you to agree to let Microsoft all into your life.
Pros:
Bing Map data
Multiple Map views
Shows current location
Directions
Search
Shows transit stations and data
Traffic
Cons:
No street view
No compass
Slower scrolling response
No voice directions

Good one Henry. I didn’t even know they had a web maps solution.
You really should’ve included Nokia Maps. For iPhone and Android there’s a web app that also has audio directions (!).
Good call on the MapQuest app. This could work.
