5 Free Alternatives to Apple IOS 6 Maps
1. Google Maps Web App
The most suggested alternative to the new IOS 6 Maps app I keep seeing repeated is the Google Maps Web App. You just point Safari to maps.google.com on your IOS device and there you are. You can then add the web app to the home screen so you can load it up again like it was a native app. You will be prompted to do so when you get there. Most of the functionality of the native app is intact with the web version. The main differences are no street view and no compass support. There are no turn by turn directions and no milestone follow along either. It is the Google accurate data you love though. The web app doesn’t seem to scroll as smooth as the native app either. For transit riders, you can add a layer to your map that shows you the routes. That definitely wasn’t in the native app and can be helpful.
Pros:
Google Maps data
Map and Satellite View
Search
Shows current location
Shows transit stations and data
Traffic
Cons:
No street view
No compass
Slower scrolling response
No voice directions

Good one Henry. I didn’t even know they had a web maps solution.
You really should’ve included Nokia Maps. For iPhone and Android there’s a web app that also has audio directions (!).
Good call on the MapQuest app. This could work.
