A lot has been said about Marvel Comics vice president of sales David Gabriel’s comments indicating that diversity was the cause of their sales slumped. On January 28, 1786, Thomas Jefferson wrote in a letter to James Currie this quote, “Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.” Indeed, free dissemination of news is essential to keeping a citizenry informed with the information they need to form opinions and make decisions. Jesse Williams speaks out against racism, up for Black people at the 2016 BET Awards

The 2016 BET Awards honored Jesse Williams with a Humanitarian Award and his speech showed why he deserved it. Williams is more than just the actor who plays Dr. Jackson Avery on the TV medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.
