Top 5 Twitter Hashtag Fails by Brands of 2014

#OzsInbox

Doctor Mehmet Oz has a lot of fans that see him and his advice in a very positive light. Many see the alternative health information he talks about as a breath of fresh air outside of the dogma of American Medical Association establishment and big Pharma. The problem here is the timing. Had this question been posed any other time when Dr. Oz hadn’t recently questioned by Congress for promoting diet scams it might have worked out well. This is a social media manager who isn’t paying attention to the media or his/her boss. At this time, Oz was less of a media darling than he had been in the past. You have to be aware of your standing in the eyes of the public and the potential for this to go wrong when you try a campaign like this.

As far as social media fails, isn’t about the message of Dr. Oz, it’s about the timing. Like I said he has a loyal audience and he’s been right about things; remember the arsenic in apple juice? The problem is that he was in the midst of some bad publicity. If you ask the public to ask you a question in an open forum while you are under scrutiny these will be the remarks that bubble to the top. Then it’s game on. Someone should have sent that to OzsInbox.

Ouch.
